Learn about LLM

The Great Training

Ever wonder what’s actually happening inside an AI model when it learns?
We did too… so we made the Floofies – cute furry characters that represent the parameters (the actual math) powering every LLM you use.

What are the Floofies, exactly?
They’re a visual metaphor for model parameters – the numbers that get updated during training and ultimately drive the model’s behavior.

Presented to you – Episode 1:🎬 The Great Training – we break down gradient descent and training.

How does the episode explain training?
Imagine wild, bumpy creatures with random values scattered across a huge landscape. They play a game billions of times – “guess the next word” – and with every round they shift a little, gradually turning into smooth, intelligent beings.

Is that just a cute story, or the real mechanism?
It’s a playful framing of the literal process: repeated prediction + error measurement + parameter updates is how LLMs learn.

(0:02) Long ago in the Lost Landscape, the Floofies were wild and bumpy. (0:06) They had sharp corners and jagged edges. (0:09) Their values scattered randomly across the Lost Landscape without knowing where to settle.(0:15) One day, the ancient architects discovered something miraculous. (0:20) All the words ever written by humans had invisible patterns like constellations in the sky. (0:26) They realized that if Floofies could learn these patterns, they could understand and speak like humans do.(0:35) And so began the great training. (0:37) The Floofies played a game. (0:40) Watch words fly by and guess which word comes next.(0:44) When they guessed wrong, they felt a pull, like rolling down a hill, that helped them find better values. (0:52) This pull was called gradient descent. (0:57) They played this game billions of times, learning from all the human words the architects had gathered.(1:04) Each time they rolled down to correct their mistakes, their bumpy values got smoother and their guesses got better. (1:13) The sharp edges wore away as they learned the patterns of how words fit together. (1:18) After a lot of work, the Fluffies became round and smooth.(1:21) They had settled into the deepest valleys of the Lost Landscape, where their values made the best predictions. (1:32) They had learned to understand language. (1:35) Now they were ready for their next adventure, learning special jobs to help people do things.
